The Library Journal ran a review of our Poverty and Promise audio book on March 15, 2010, which provides quotes about poverty in africa. Putting the audio book together was a blast, especially working with John Mahoney at Ravenpheat Audio, and Sule Greg Wilson to put African-inspired music on the tracks. You can listen to samples of an interview with me and John Adam, host of the John Adam radio show, as we discuss how I started Just One Voice as a non-profit and wrote Poverty and Promise as an awareness raiser and a fundraiser.

Here’s the copy from the Library Journal review or visit the Library Journal web page:

Brown, Cindi. Poverty and Promise: One Volunteer’s Experience of Kenya. 2 CDs. retail ed. abridged. 4 hrs. Just One Voice Audio. 2010. ISBN 978-0-9800620-1-4. $10.95. INT AFFAIRS

This title’s 2008 trade paperback edition won an Independent Publisher Award and a Next Generation Indie Award and was a finalist for the Glyph Award for Best First Book by a New Publisher. In this audio edition read by the author, Brown tells of her humanitarian efforts in the area of community health with an international relief organization in Kenya. Passionate about her work but concerned for her personal safety, she ended up returning home to the United States before completing her two-year contract. Brown beautifully conveys her range of feelings throughout her stay, from surprise and delight to fear and frustration. The African-based acoustic music by Sule Greg Wilson, author of The Drummer’s Path, adds atmosphere. For travel and volunteering collections. [Includes a bonus interview with the author.—Ed.]—J. Sara Paulk, Fitzgerald-Ben Hill Cty. Lib., GA
